    best websites for mobiles

    1 skweezer.com

An amazing little site that takes any animated, overdesigned web page and lays
it out in a mobile-friendly version. Just go to Skweezer and type in a web
    address for a near-instant transformation.

    2 m.flickr.com

The mobile version of the Flickr photo-sharing site lets you upload photos
you’ve just taken on your phone straight to your account. It also uses your
mobile signal to work out where you are in the world, then lets you see
    other users’ snaps taken locally.

    3 m.netvibes.com

The iGoogle service allows you to build a personal home page from links and
news feeds. It looks great on a desktop browser, but its mobile version at
google.co.uk/m is a dull, text-only affair. Netvibes does a similar thing
but offers a much snazzier mobile version, putting links to all your
favourite websites on a single, quick-loading page.

    4 mobile.twitter.com

There are plenty of apps aimed at users of the short-message service, but
Twitter’s own mobile site is simplicity itself, loads quickly and works on
    most phones.

    5 findatoilet.mobi

Don’t laugh — at a certain time and place, this could be the best website in
the world to have bookmarked. Type in your address and you’ll be told the
location of the nearest public conveniences, complete with opening times.

    6 m.brightkite.com

Brightkite’s mobile site combines social networking with location information
    — it lets you find other users nearby every time you “check in” (ie, post
    your real-world address).

    7 popurls.mobi

Want to know what other web users are reading? PopURLs is the slickest of the
“who’s looking at what” sites, and it’s lean and mean on mobiles: it finds
the top 10 stories on news and gossip sites such as Digg, Delicious, Reddit
and more, and links to the originals.

    8 mobile.qype.co.uk

This user-generated “review of everything” is useful on the go. Search for
food, films, pubs and more in virtually every town in Britain, in
    quick-loading text.

    9 pubquizhelp.com/wap.wml

A website with two clear purposes: to help quizmasters compile pub quizzes,
and to help entrants cheat. The latter is made all the easier with its
    mobile phone-friendly site. Sorry, compilers.

    10 mobile.nationalrail.co.uk

National Rail Enquiries offers an excellent iPhone app, but the
smartphone-friendly timetable on offer here will work neatly with most other
phones. If yours doesn’t like it, however, try the seriously no-frills (and
    totally unofficial) m.traintimes.org.uk instead.
